Getting Started

Step 1 — Install the Extension

Install TarjimPro from the Chrome Web Store. After installation, a small icon will appear in your browser toolbar.

Step 2 — Create an Account

Click the TarjimPro icon

Click the TarjimPro icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup.

Click "Sign In / Register"

This opens the authentication page in a new tab.

Register with email or Google

Enter your email and choose a password (at least 8 characters), or click "Sign in with Google" for one-click sign-in.

Verify your email (email sign-up only)

Check your inbox for a verification email and click the link. Then return to the extension and sign in.

Translating Text

Navigate to any page with Arabic text

Al Jazeera, Wikipedia, news sites, books — TarjimPro works on any page.

Select the Arabic text

Click and drag to highlight the passage you want to translate. For precise selection, click at the start of the text, then Shift+click at the end.

Wait for the tooltip

A translation tooltip appears automatically near the selected text. Translation usually takes 2–5 seconds.

Dismiss when done

Click the × button in the tooltip, press Escape, or click elsewhere on the page to close it.

Character limit: Selections longer than 800 characters will show a warning instead of translating. Select a shorter passage — one or two sentences at a time gives the best results.
Tip: Avoid selecting ads When highlighting longer paragraphs, use Shift+click rather than click-and-drag to avoid accidentally selecting ads or unrelated Latin text. TarjimPro automatically strips non-Arabic characters from your selection, but a clean selection is faster.

Reading the Translation Tooltip

The tooltip shows all available information about the selected text:

Arabic with Diacritics (Tashkeel)

The top of the tooltip shows your original Arabic text with full harakat (diacritical marks) added. This helps you understand the correct voweling and pronunciation.

English Translation

A natural, contextual English translation of the passage.

Transliteration

A romanized pronunciation guide (e.g., kitābun for كِتَابٌ). Enable or disable this in Settings.

Notes

Brief linguistic notes about idioms, unusual phrasing, or (in Classical mode) theological and grammatical context. Enable or disable in Settings.

Vocabulary Breakdown

Click the "Analyze vocabulary" button to extract individual words from the passage — each with its root, type (verb / noun / adjective), and meaning. You can save any word to your Vocabulary List with one click.

Credits Remaining

The bottom of the tooltip shows how many translation credits you have left after each translation.

Settings

Open the TarjimPro popup and click the settings (⚙) icon to access preferences.

Translation Mode

  • Modern Standard Arabic (MSA): Best for news articles, books, websites, and everyday formal Arabic.
  • Classical Arabic: Best for Quranic text, hadith, classical poetry, and pre-modern literature. The AI uses scholarly transliteration and provides theological/grammatical notes.

Show Transliteration

Toggle whether the romanized pronunciation is shown in the tooltip. Useful for learners who are not yet comfortable reading Arabic script.

Show Notes

Toggle whether linguistic or scholarly notes are included. Recommended for intermediate and advanced learners.

Settings are saved automatically and remembered across all your browsing sessions.

Translation History

Every translation you make is automatically saved to your history. To access it:

  1. Click the TarjimPro icon in your toolbar.
  2. Click "History" in the popup.

What you can do in History

  • Search your past translations by Arabic text or English meaning.
  • Re-read any past translation with full tashkeel, transliteration, and notes.
  • Analyze vocabulary from any past translation (results are cached — no extra credit used).
  • Delete individual entries or clear your entire history.
  • See how many times you've translated the same passage (the count badge).
  • Visit the source page where the translation was made.
If you translate the same passage again, the count is incremented rather than creating a duplicate entry.

Build a personal Arabic word list as you read. Words are saved with their root, type, and meaning.

The tooltip breaks down the passage into individual words with roots and meanings.

Click the bookmark icon next to any word

The word is saved to your Vocabulary List. The icon turns filled to confirm it's saved.

Viewing your Vocabulary List

Click the TarjimPro popup icon → "Vocabulary". Here you can:

  • Browse all saved words sorted alphabetically or by date added.
  • Filter by word type (verbs, nouns, adjectives).
  • Search by Arabic word, root, or meaning.
  • Remove words you no longer want to study.
  • Export your list to Anki for spaced-repetition study (see below).

Credits

TarjimPro uses a credit system. Each translation consumes one credit.

  • New accounts receive free credits on sign-up.
  • Your remaining credit balance is shown in the popup and at the bottom of each translation tooltip.
  • When you run out, click "Buy Credits" in the popup to purchase more.
  • Vocabulary analysis of a previously translated passage does not consume a credit (results are cached).
Credits are consumed when a translation is successfully returned. A failed or blocked translation (e.g., text too long, network error) does not consume a credit.

Anki Export

You can export your vocabulary list to Anki, a popular flashcard app for spaced-repetition learning.

Open your Vocabulary List

Click the TarjimPro popup → Vocabulary.

Click "Export to Anki"

A .txt file is downloaded to your computer.

Import into Anki

In Anki, go to File → Import, select the downloaded file. The cards will be added to a deck called TarjimPro. Each card shows the Arabic word on the front and the meaning, root, and type on the back.

Tip: Re-export regularly as you add more words — Anki will skip duplicates automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't a tooltip appearing when I select Arabic text? ▾

Make sure you are signed in — open the TarjimPro popup and check that you see your email and credit balance. If you are not signed in, no translations will be made. Also check that you have credits remaining. On some sites with very strict content security policies, the extension may not be able to inject into the page.

I see "Session expired" — what do I do? ▾

Your login session has expired. Click the TarjimPro icon, then click "Sign in" to log back in. Your history and vocabulary are safely stored on the server.

The translation doesn't seem accurate. What should I do? ▾

AI translation is excellent for most Modern Standard Arabic but can occasionally make mistakes, especially with highly informal dialect text, very old Classical Arabic, or ambiguous passages. For Classical texts, make sure you have Classical Arabic mode enabled in Settings. For critical translations, always verify with a qualified human translator.

Why does my selection include ad text or unrelated content? ▾

When dragging to select text across multiple page sections, the browser can include intervening elements like ads. TarjimPro automatically strips non-Arabic characters from your selection. For cleaner results, use click then Shift+click instead of click-and-drag.

Does analyzing vocabulary use a credit? ▾

Only the first time you analyze a translation. After that, the result is cached and loading the vocabulary breakdown for that translation again is free.

I didn't receive a verification email. What should I do? ▾

Check your spam/junk folder first. If it's not there, try signing in — the error message will offer you an option to resend the verification email. If problems persist, contact salam@tarjimpro.com.

How do I delete my account and all my data? ▾

Email salam@tarjimpro.com with your registered email address and request deletion. We will delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
